As the title says... If you had to choose one scene as your favourite in JAWS, what would it be and why? So many great moments to choose from...but I guess mine would be Quint's speech at the Town hall. 'Y'all know me...' - it brings a smile to my face everytime I watch the movie. I like watching Roy cue Shaw in at the very start of that scene too, thanks to info obtained here on TJB.

I like the " Boys, oh Boys " scene, cue that brilliant piece of music " Hook me up another barrel ", Love it.

Yeah, another great scene.
"But I tell you this.."
I wonder what Brody was going to tell Quint before Hooper interjected?

For me, it's the Indianapolis speech!!! Finally getting to see inside Quint's tough exterior, & learning more about what makes him tick. That's a timeless moment in cinematic history. Seeing Hooper & Brody's reaction as the story unfolds is priceless. If you remember, Dreyfuss said that he wasn't acting at all while he was listening to Shaw tell the tale: "when Robert told that story, I couldn't take my eyes off him". I applaud Dreyfuss for kinda' giving Robert some well deserved kudos during that doc, especially since he's not with us anymore to speak for himself. I thought it was a very classy gesture on his part. I've never heard what Scheider thought of that scene. Would've loved to have heard his thoughts. Another scene is right before the shark crashes the stern, when Quint looks abruptly to his left...you see the fear in his eyes for the first time. I still get a little flutter when that scene happens!!!!

This is always a difficult choice so I usually pick the "lesser-famous" scenes instead of "bigger boat" and such. So having said that, one scene that I LOVE is Brody's eyes right immediately after Dreyfuss says "This is not a boat accident!" Brody's eyes move and look squarely at Nevin! I always loved that scene; it's surely not something that was literally directed by Spielberg and more an improv by Scheider, although I couldn't be certain about that. I just know I love that moment when Scheider's eyes move and look squarely at Nevin. Just fantastic!

OMG how can you have a favourite scene!!!
But if I was pushed for just one scene it would be the 'Bigger Boat' scene, that whole scene with the shark approaching the Orca and Quint harpooning the shark with the first barrel.

Once the first barrell gets planted, the chase scene, the music rocks, and Hooper yelling, "Bring me another barrell, I'm coming around." And Brodys smile as they chase! Priceless for me friends.

The head, the tail, the whole damn thing if you know what I mean. I couldn't name one. The Indianapolis monologue, Quint's introduction dialogue, Sean imitating Brody scene, so many more... -Mike

I'm out.
I simply cannot pick one favorite scene.
It's not even remotely possible for me.

Jeez, not really possible is it? The Indy speech is a goosebump inducing moment in film history, quite easily my favourite film "speech" of all time. However.... I'd have to agree with Johnny here. It's my favourite part of the soundtrack as well, very clever, it's the moment in the film when it suddenly turns into an exciting chase movie, and for a minute you feel the excitement, then as the barrels dissapear, the music slows down and we're back to being terrorised in the water again. Every split second is edited to perfection.

I could never really pick a favorite scene. I look at the big picture no pun intended. There are scenes I like better than others for different reasons, but over all this entire film is a masterpeice and impossible for me to say one particular scene is the best. I love the scene where Vaughn finally realizes that something has to be done about the shark and gives in and signs the voucher. To me that illustrates the seriousness of the situation like no other. But I also absolutely love the final scene when Brody overcomes his fear - "I used to hate the water". That scene really gives that feeling of (everything is alright now) to the viewer but done very subtly. The whole film is genious.

A tough question and one I've been asked many times over the years, I can never pin down to one scene but Brody flicking through the shark book, Quint's attack on Bruce (" now NOW") are among my faves, I also love the grin Brody fires towards Hooper as the Mayor makes it clear isn't prepared to watch young Kintner spill out all over the dock. So many classic scenes, it'd be easier to name my least favourite. Ed
