I just saw this on You Tube. Its an extremely short segment on the making of Jaws the Revenge. It says(and shows) a giant backdrop they used on location to hide the entire San Fernando Valley.Hope the link works.

Dale this looks real. On the making of JTR you can see that the final water scenes were filmed in a tank at the studio...this looks (to me) to be legit.

Jimmyjawz, what do you think?

:)

Yes, I was there at Universal Studios when they were filming that and got to see some of the filming from a distance. They filmed the final scenes there. It is still there and you can see the backdrop today. The area is called Falls Lake.
See link: http://www.thestudiotour.com/ush/backlo ... lake.shtml

Yeah, that's true about that backdrop...you can see it at the end of the film as the water spalshes up against it! But what doc is that clip from that Dale posted? I never saw that one before; it doesn't look like it's from the "Behind The Scenes With Jaws The Revenge" TV Special from 1987. Hmmmm....

Yup, that's what it is. I've seen this before. I think that this is from a promotional video from USH that I think that I have somewhere. I have to check it out.

:)

Just saw this backdrop a few days ago. Funny thing is they play a clip from JTR when talking about it, since this backdrop was in fact built for the movie but kept up and used for many many many movies. You get a real good look at it in The Truman Show, when Jim Carrey sails to the end of "his world" and starts pounding on the backdrop, until he walks through the door which was cut into the backdrop. It was also used for the return to earth scene in Apollo 13, the Spinosaur attack in Jurassic Park 3, and lord knows how many thousands more.

Also, in front of the lake is the cabin from The Great Outdoors, and next to it The Bates motel.

fun fact we all know......the reason Michael Caine climbed up into the boat dry was because they used alot of blue dye in that lake to make it match the look of the water in the Bahamas. Everytime he went in, his white clothes, his hair, and even skin would be blue.

Great info there Shaun about both the movies that used that backdrop and the Hoagie thing.

Hoagie: 1) A sandwich made of a long roll filled with meat, cheese, & salad. 2) A male character in the 1987 film, Jaws: The Revenge./ Source: The Oxford English Dictionary.

it's amazing how much the two may have in common. One has alot of meat, couple of rolls, possibly cheese.......the other is a sandwich.
